Add your website

If your answers are already on your website, you don't need to save pages as files. Add the site to a knowledge base: AOVA reads its pages, and your agent answers from them like any other document. It can also read the site again every week or day, so when you change a price or your opening hours, your agent knows.

Add a website

  1. Open your knowledge base and click Add knowledge → Website. You can also simply paste a website address anywhere on the knowledge base page.
  2. Enter the Website address, for example yourbusiness.com.
  3. Choose What to read:
    • This page only — just the address you entered.
    • Whole website — that page and every page it links to on the same site, and the pages in the site's sitemap.
    • From sitemap — exactly the pages the site lists in its sitemap (/sitemap.xml).
  4. Set Up to … pages — the most pages to read from this site.
  5. Choose Keep up to date: Off, Weekly or Daily (see the plan table below).
  6. Optional: open Advanced to read Only pages under some paths (for example /services) or Skip pages under others (for example /blog). One path per line.
  7. Click Add website.

The website appears in the knowledge base as a folder with a globe icon. Open it to watch the pages arrive — Reading pages 12 / 40 — and to see when it was last and will next be read.

What can be read

  • Public pages only. Pages behind a login can't be read.
  • Pages with text. A page drawn only by JavaScript (for example some booking widgets and single-page apps) shows Can't read: page needs JavaScript. Upload that content as a file.
  • Web pages and PDFs on the same site. Images, videos and other files are skipped.
  • The site's own rules. AOVA follows the site's robots.txt and introduces itself as AOVA-Bot. If the site asks robots not to read a page, it's skipped.

Each page is stored as text with its title and address at the top, so your agent can point clients to the right page.

Pages included in your plan

Reading pages costs no credits. Each plan includes a number of pages across all your websites:

PlanPagesKeep up to date
Free20By hand (Refresh now)
Pro500Weekly
Business5,000Weekly or daily
Enterprise20,000Weekly or daily

When the pages run out, the rest are listed as Not read: plan page limit reached. Remove a website or exclude pages to make room, or upgrade on the Plan & credits page.

Manage a website

Open the website folder:

  • Refresh now reads the site again straight away. Only pages that changed are updated; pages that disappeared from the site leave the knowledge base too.
  • Settings changes what to read, the page limit, path rules and how often to refresh. The address itself can't change — remove the website and add the new one.
  • Remove website removes all its pages from the knowledge base. Your website isn't touched.

Each page's ⋯ menu has Open page on the site, View the text we read and Exclude this page. An excluded page leaves the knowledge base and isn't read again; to bring it back, delete its path from Skip pages under in Settings.

Pages of a website can't be edited or replaced in AOVA. Change them on your site, and they update on the next refresh.

Coming next

YouTube videos and playlists, Google Drive, Notion and podcast feeds are on the way. For now, upload a video file and it will be transcribed — see Add audio and video.
